Marriage advice :The Impact of Distractions on Reality

In today’s world, we are surrounded by entertainment, making it easy to get confused about what’s real. Media often shows us unrealistic images of perfect relationships, luxurious lifestyles, and flawless appearances. However, reality doesn’t usually match these expectations, which causes a gap between what we think is true and what really is.

One area where this has a big impact is marriage. When couples can’t meet each other’s unrealistic expectations, they often look for happiness elsewhere—through new relationships, experiences, or distractions. Sadly, this search usually leads to feelings of emptiness and disappointment.

Marriage is an important foundation for both family and society. A society that doesn’t value or protect the importance of marriage weakens its own stability. Why is marriage so important? One reason is that it serves as a God-given example of love, sacrifice, and mutual respect for future generations.

When couples forget this sacred purpose, their relationships often fall short of their true potential. Broken relationships lead to broken families, and when families fall apart, the structure holding everything together begins to break down. This is why we often see stories about social problems in the news.

Now more than ever, Christians have the opportunity to uphold and demonstrate the biblical principles of marriage. God’s plan for marriage is the only foundation that can provide lasting joy, peace, and purpose.

Marriage Life :God’s Plan for Married Couples

The Bible provides clear guidance on the roles and responsibilities within marriage. A key passage is Ephesians 5:22-33, which explains God’s standard for married couples. While much of this passage focuses on the role of husbands, it also addresses the duties of wives.

In Ephesians 5:22-24, it says: “Wives, submit yourselves to your own husbands as you do to the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior. Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything.”

This call for submission doesn’t mean wives are inferior or less important. Instead, it’s about willingly aligning with God’s purpose. A wife’s submission is an expression of faith in God’s plan for her life and marriage.

However, this doesn’t mean that husbands should use their power to dominate or control their wives. Husbands are called to respect their wives as equals, showing love, protection, and care. In return, husbands and wives work together to build strong and healthy relationships.

The Beauty of a Willing Heart

Submission in this context isn’t passive. It involves active participation, wisdom, and understanding. As one writer beautifully said: “True submission isn’t about weakness or blind obedience. It’s about contributing with grace, moral understanding, and a joyful spirit to the relationship.”

Elisabeth Elliot, a well-known Christian author, explained this idea perfectly. Reflecting on the Virgin Mary’s response to God, she wrote: “Unlike Eve, who acted out of personal desire, Mary’s response to God was one of complete submission. She didn’t question the risks, losses, or how it would disrupt her life. Instead, she said, ‘I am the Lord’s servant. May your word to me be fulfilled’ (Luke 1:38). This, I believe, is the essence of true womanhood—yielding and submitting to God’s will.”

This humility and willingness make a wife’s role important and powerful. As described in 1 Peter 3:4, a gentle and quiet spirit is of great value in God’s eyes. Mary embodies this spirit, providing an eternal example for women today.

Conclusion

Marriage is a sacred institution meant to reflect God’s love and purpose. By embracing their unique roles, married couples can build relationships based on respect, sacrifice, and shared love. In a world filled with distorted ideals, God’s plan for marriage offers the stability and happiness that many people long for.

Christians have the honor and responsibility to live out this biblical standard—not only in their own marriages but also as a testimony to the world. True joy and peace come from following God’s plan for life and relationships.
